BORIS HOPPEK

A heliumcowboy resident since 2004, Boris Hoppek’s vast oeuvre includes painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and huge cardboard installations, which he set up all over the world. He is famous for his public interventions in the street, turning the uninitiated passers-by into protagonists of interactive art projects, which he captures in well-edited, non-scripted short films.

From German descent but having lived in Barcelona for many years, nowadays Hoppek moves frequently between Spain, Croatia and China.

JAYBO MONK

„The creations of Jaybo Monk are ambiguous yet hauntingly powerful and of great visual impact. Creating his own version of beauty, narration and meaning, Jaybo Monk is the spokesman of both dreams and reality. In a world where there is absolutely nothing new to be said or done, Monk leaves the rules behind and dedicates himself to the concepts of the original, the chaotic, the insane and the irrational.” (from widewalls.ch)

Jaybo Monk left his family home in the south of France when he was fourteen and eventually moved to Berlin, where he still lives and works.

VICTOR CASTILLO

For a decade now, Victor Castillo is one of our main and most desired artists at heliumcowboy. He masterfully combines the imagery of comics and television with the traditional paintings of the likes of de Goya or Velázquez. Castillo’s artwork is associated with a genre called Pop Surrealism, and besides its pop-cultural references it often expresses passionate political opinions and surprises with deep and ambiguous meanings.

Victor Castillo was born in Chile and lives and works in Los Angeles, USA.

JAY OLÈ

The secret rule breaker. His style is far from everything else appearing on the art scene right now. Outsider art meets the raw power of a thunderous pop art hurricane. Not much is known about Jay Olè’s origins, but it is rumored that he could be from New York. Or elsewehre.

We’re happy to show him for the first time in Hamburg, courtesy of our friends from Galerie Wolfsen, DK.

ALEX DIAMOND

Jörg Heikhaus aka Alex Diamond is a storyteller, much like a visual singer-songwriter, using traditional craftsmanship to carve compelling narratives and poetic tales into wood. Over many years he has developed his very own, trademark woodwork: multi-layered, meticulously and highly detailed sculptural woodcuts, blended with Diamond‘s unique painting and pigmenting styles.

Jörg Heikhaus was born in Cologne. He has founded the heliumcowboy gallery in Hamburg in 2002.

RUNE CHRISTENSEN

New Danish art-superstar Rune Christensen comes out of a hidden talent mass that finds its way to both galleries and museums through Urban Art and vandalism. The main motive of Christensen is tattooed women hidden or half hidden behind masks and in different scenarios. Being an avid traveler, he became fascinated with the patterns and colors he experienced in the traditional handcrafts, costumes and temple decorations of Asia, South Africa, North Africa and Native America.

Rune Christensen is represented by Galerie Wolfsen, DK, and we are delighted to introduce his art to Hamburg.

ABOUT HELIUMCOWBOY

A pioneer among a new breed of galleries, heliumcowboy opened 2002 in Hamburg St. Pauli. The aim was to discover exciting young artists with the ability to blow away boundaries and to establish nothing less but the future aesthetics of art.

Since the beginning, our motto (and ethos) derives from an old 70ies song: „A cowboy‘s work is never done“. This in mind, we quickly expanded the gallery’s reach by showcasing artists from around the globe, organizing exhibitions abroad and in unusual places, and taking part in acclaimed art fairs in New York, Miami, Basel, Cologne and Berlin.

heliumcowboy tirelessly supports artists by giving them the space and opportunity to fully explore and showcase their talent. Jointly, we have been getting our hands and minds dirty, achieving a shared goal: to establish a new breed of artists within the field of probably the „most contemporary“ form of fine art today.

Almost 15 years, more than 200 shows and art fairs and several locations later, heliumcowboy disposed of the traditional gallery concept with a regular exhibition schedule. We are focusing on supporting a very small and exclusive selection of artists only, developing and executing art projects and organizing off-site and on-site exhibitions as well as exhibiting at renowned art fairs.
