Isabel by jo Fischer.Isabel Abele
After spending a year in San Francisco, Isabel moved to Hamburg in 1997 to study arts and design. However, her plans changed the very moment she attended a lecture in art history, introducing her to the art of Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg and other icons of the American Modern and Pop Art movement. This is when she decided to approach visual art on a theoretical level, focusing on the origins and appearences of contemporary art movements.
During her studies she stayed in Paris for a year, working for several art institutions, including the Freunde der Hamburger Kunsthalle, the largest museum supporter club in Germany. From 2004 to 2008 she was part of the planning team for the members program, organizing discussions about arts and architecture, artists studio visits and exhibition talks. She has been assistant to performance artist Benita-Imannuel Grosser and co-organizing exhibitions at their space featuring artists like Rita McBride, Glen Rubsamen or Sylvia Kolbowski.
After completing her MA in art history and sociology in 2008, Isabel joined heliumcowboy artspace. With a special interest in Contemporary Art and Art in Public Space in a broader sense, you can find some of her writings in the following publications:
*66-03. Werke aus den Sammlungen Lafrenz und Reinking, Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst, 2007.
*Fleckner, Uwe (Ed.): Kunst in der Stadt Hamburg. 40 Werke im öffentlichen Raum, Berlin 2007.
*Ingo Clauß / Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst (Ed.): Urban Art, Werke aus der Sammlung Reinking, Bremen 2009.
