Jens Rausch: AUSLICHTUNGEN

The artist Jens Rausch is no longer a blank slate at heliumcowboy. And we are delighted to be able to present the painter for the fifth time with a solo exhibition in our gallery. "AUSLICHTUNGEN" focuses exclusively on the forest, which Jens Rausch has always and consistently dealt with artistically. The forest, whose existence is threatened by climatic upheavals, human intervention and the resulting consequences such as drought summers and forest fires, offers the Fulda-born artist a broad field of work. Within this field, he engages intensively with the process and material and uses a wide variety of resources and tools to find new ways of approaching this traditional and culturally and historically charged topic in an innovative way.

In ever-changing approaches, Jens Rausch uses natural resources to create works of art from dead, decomposed substances such as fire, lime, earth, bitumen, soot or ash, creating living images that reflect the "circle of life". These materials always enter into an external relationship and continue to change vividly through moisture, cold or heat. Jens Rausch experiments within this theme and at the same time explores his work on various levels.

With the exhibition "AUSLICHTUNGEN", the artist now introduces a further element into his works: spray paint, which can often be seen on trees for clearing and forest maintenance, has found its way into the pictures. In addition to the artistic and thus man-made thinning of natural processes on the respective picture carriers, the human traces are now even more clearly visible.

In some of his works, Jens Rausch also uses pages from old telephone directories, an almost forgotten everyday object from a time before digitalisation. For the artist, these "relics" create a link to the German language, which occasionally uses words from the forest. As a result, Jens' works repeatedly contain "roots" of language, history and nature.

Jens first showed his work at heliumcowboy in 2017, back then under the title "Experimentierfelder". The new exhibition "AUSLICHTUNGEN" shows that the artist has continued to grow enormously and is increasingly finding himself in a clearing of knowledge with his forestry works.
